We occasionally get calls for photos to video (only family and friends) and the last couple I put onto DVD, it's amazing. I'll probably get hooked on DVD making and then have to buy another Mac. Oh well. I look for reasons to make DVDs now. Luckily I get paid to. Well worth it. JP.

Recordable DVD's for PC
This problem is mostly with standalone dvd recorders, because they either record at constant high bitrate in SP mode, or they use lower bitrate in other modes. No 'real' DVD is made this way, they are always variable bit rate, and VBR encoding can be achieved only with computer-based dvd making.

Well, I suppose the chapters are probably alright actually, but the time the dvd is at often screws up for me, eg. you might be 30 mins into something but the time is as 1 hour so if I attempt to ff from there it'll jump to the 1 hour point and ff from there, or i'll be unable to ff/rw/pause.

I think the biggest mistake that HD DVD may have made is in making such a good upscaler for SD -- and I wonder if the Blu-Ray players do poorly in comparison on-purpose. I agree with the argument that there is no way to upscale and make it higher resolution, but it does produce a better version of the SD image.

After making Beta machines for more than 20 years, they did switch to VHS. One should not discount 20 years' of profits (and happy customers) as a marketing mistake. .... I believe LG makes a machine that plays both, but it's more than twice the price of either a Blu_Ray or HD DVD player alone, so why bother with LG. There is no reason to continue making DVD players as you can play your DVDs on Blu_Ray player and you actually get a better picture as it is upscaled to 1080i/p depending on the player.
