Break any of those rules and quality falls over the cliff. Whereas getting consistently good results on DVD is much easier. Pretty much the same as making and viewing a PVR recording. Yes, with good quality video source (digital cable, dvd) it will produce excellent VCDs. But whenever there is too much noise in your video source (ie not one of any less-expensive DVD-R burners (ie LG has very good and cheap model) will set you on DVD making course instead of making outdated formats like VCD.
